Ubuntu Packet Tracer Setup We will see step by step the installation of Cisco Packet Tracer 7.2 version on the computer with Ubuntu operating system. Although the installation process is done on Ubuntu, it is installed in other GNU / Linux distributions in the same way. You can download the latest version of the application from netacad.com or download it from the source I installed without having to subscribe. (Download for Cisco Packet Tracer 7.2 64-bit Linux) The application works only on 64 bit systems. In the version of Cisco Packet Tracer 7.2, the letter i did not work on either the English or keyboard and I could not find the solution. Distribution I use: Ubuntu 18.04 After downloading the file, we will start the installation by opening the Terminal (Terminal) in the directory where the file is located. I saved the file I downloaded to the desktop. Therefore, I will first go to the desktop directory with the cd Desktop / command on the terminal screen, then I will list the files in the directory with the ls command. As you can see, the file is in compressed file format. First, I will extract the contents of the compressed file and create a directory. Command: mkdir packettracer Then I will extract the compressed file to the directory. tar -xvzf PacketTracer7.2forLinux64bit.tar.gz -C packettracer / After extracting the files to the directory, we will enter the directory with the cd command. Then we will start the installation with the ./install command. At this stage, things will come out about the terms of use EULA. After confirming with the Enter key in the first place, we will quickly pass the terms of use by pressing the space key. (If enter key is pressed each time, one line progress.) Then we will take the necessary steps to accept the terms of use and to grant root authority. After these processes are finished, if we see “Cisco Packet Tracer 7.2 installed successfully” on the screen, the installation is complete. Cisco Packet Tracer is now ready for use. When we write a packettracer and press enter in the terminal, the program will run, but most of the time there may be missing files in libraries and the program does not open. To do this, we will first look at whether there are missing files in the library. Since the installation process is in the / opt / pt / bin / directory, we will go to this directory and then run the program with the ./PacketTracer7 command. If no error message is received, the program will run smoothly. As you can see, a file named libpng12.so.0 is missing, which is usually missing. You can search, find and download the file name on Google (amme service for those using Debian / Ubuntu libpng12-0.deb) Now I will run the ./PacketTracer7 command on the terminal again and test if there is a problem. As you can see, there was no problem and the program was opened. You can log in as a guest or registered user in the screen that opens. In the next process, the program can be run by typing packettracer from the terminal. Source: Cisco Pods
